Sustainability

This is how we at Lohmühle are committed to the environment

At Lohmühle, we place great importance on providing our guests with an environmentally friendly and sustainable hotel and/or restaurant experience. We are aware of our responsibility to the planet and continuously strive to reduce our ecological footprint and contribute to greater sustainability and environmental protection.

Photovoltaics and Green Electricity, Biogas, and Energy Savings: Responsibility Focus

At the Hotel and Restaurant Lohmühle, we place great importance on environmental awareness and sustainability. Therefore, we rely on photovoltaics to utilize and generate our own electricity. Any excess energy is fed back into the grid, and conversely, in case of need, we exclusively purchase green electricity from a regional provider. Our new gas heating system also exclusively uses biogas, and our kitchen operates with 100% green electricity. Additionally, we comprehensively save energy: for example, the lighting in our hotel restaurant has been almost completely converted to energy-saving LEDs.

Hot Water through Solar Technology

Our responsibility towards the environment is also reflected in the use of solar technology for heating service water. This way, we save energy and conserve the resources of our planet.

We Support Sustainable Mobility

  • Two public charging stations with 4 charging points (22 kW) in our parking lot
  • Our own company car runs on electricity and was built CO2-neutral in Germany

Waste Reduction through Reusable Systems

We strive to avoid waste by using reusable containers and exchange systems. Through this measure, we reduce the amount of packaging waste generated and thus protect the environment. For example, our milk comes in exchange for 20-liter stainless steel cans (thus replacing less environmentally friendly Tetra Paks).

Purchasing Locally for Less CO2 and Less Packaging Waste

The Lohmühle fundamentally relies on regional products and services, purchasing predominantly directly from local producers, farmers, and suppliers. In this way, we contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and packaging waste through short transport routes and reduced packaging effort. If waste is generated, it is meticulously sorted.

Lohmühle bee colony and regional honey

Our in-house bee colony provides you with delicious breakfast honey to take away. However, the quantities of honey we produce ourselves are not enough. We are supported by a regional beekeeper friend. This way, we guarantee you always have fresh creamy honey from the region for your breakfast. Feel free to watch our colony at work through the viewing window at the beehive!

Sustainable Kitchen with Regional Ingredients

Our kitchen at Lohmühle sources its ingredients primarily from the region, with most coming directly from the producer. This supports the local economy and reduces our ecological footprint.

Fresh, Regionally Purchased Fish

Trout and carp come from the region, ensuring freshness and quality for our guests. Sea fish is sourced from Deutsche See (farm-raised fish with certification to avoid overexploitation of the oceans).

Fruits, Vegetables, and Asparagus from the "Knoblauchsland"

Ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, and asparagus are sourced directly from the "Knoblauchsland," a well-known horticultural region west of Nuremberg. Since 2022, we have also been sourcing delicious sprouts of unusual plant varieties from a young entrepreneur.

Responsible Handling of Meat and Animal Products

When processing meat, we ensure that it comes exclusively from controlled farming, and that animals are not slaughtered solely for their fillets. Therefore, we consciously offer other cuts of meat in our dishes and not just fillets (Nose to Tail). The eggs at our buffet come entirely from free-range hens with brother-hen rearing or from barn farming – all sourced directly from the producer.

One Nature Project Per Year

  • 2021: Beehive in the parking lot, insect-friendly
  • 2022: Perennial bed at the bus parking lot; insect hotel; insect-, beneficial insect-, and butterfly-friendly hedge at the parking lot, insect hotel on a golf course
  • 2023: Establishment of a dry-stone raised bed with perennials; large insect hotel in the parking lot
  • 2024: Support for NABU to regenerate a moor in Germany. Planting a hawthorn
  • 2025: Utilization of a small area behind the house; establishment of three raised beds that will be cultivated

Contribution to CO2 Reduction

Table and bed linen are cleaned in a CO2-neutral manner – by supporting the renaturation of a moor in Schleswig-Holstein.

Awards for our environmental commitment

Our commitment to the environment and sustainability has been recognized with a gold award at the "DEHOGA Environmental Check" as well as a certification for the "Climate + Environmental Pact Bavaria." These awards underscore our efforts to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner.
