Discover Franconian Easter specialities

Easter in Franconia is a time full of tradition and enjoyment: you can taste it here. And you can discover a lot of it from here!

Easter is an outstanding time for many people in Franconia – not only because of the (public) holidays but especially due to the culinary traditions and customs that characterize this time.

In our hotel restaurant Lohmühle, we celebrate Easter every year in a special way – with delicious specialties that partly have a long tradition.

Culinary Highlights Around Easter

During Holy Week and over the Easter holidays, you will always find traditional Franconian and international Easter specialties on our menu at Lohmühle.

Holy Thursday & Good Friday: Traditionally, fish dishes and vegetarian delicacies are the focus on these days. We serve you fine specialties such as fresh trout or (depending on availability) pike-perch or catfish from the region – lovingly prepared, finely seasoned, and with delicious side dishes.

Easter Sunday & Easter Monday: Here, you can traditionally find lamb, fine roast variations, and other festive delicacies – made from the best regional (mostly!) ingredients and cooked with love.

It’s worth taking a look at our current menu!

Easter Customs in Franconia – More Than Just Colorful Eggs

However, Easter in Franconia is much more than a culinary festival – there are also many exciting customs that make the region unique – and can be wonderfully explored from our hotel restaurant Lohmühle. For example:

1. Easter Fountains – A Colorful Tradition in Franconian Switzerland

Starting from Holy Week, many villages in Franconian Switzerland decorate Easter fountains. With colorful painted eggs, branches, and flowers, village fountains are transformed into true works of art – an absolute eye-catcher and a wonderful opportunity for a springtime Easter walk.

2. Holy Thursday Traditions: Spinach & Seven-Herb Soup

On Holy Thursday, there is a special custom in Franconia: eating green foods. Many enjoy spinach, herb dishes, or the "Seven-Herb Soup," which is prepared with fresh spring herbs like parsley, chives, or sorrel.
Our tip: At Lohmühle, we also serve delicious dishes without meat on Holy Thursday – let yourself be surprised!

3. Easter Sunday – The Easter Lamb as a Festive Dish

The traditional Easter lamb is not only a delicious specialty but also has a deeper meaning related to the origins of the holidays. In Franconia, a tender lamb roast (often the leg!) is often one of the highlights of Easter dining – of course, served with the best side dishes like dumplings.
Tip: At Lohmühle, we serve Franconian lamb for Easter – reserve now!
